about

'criticising bourgeois culture from within the system requires the critic to adopt some aspects of that system'

timothy d taylor 'moving in decency: the music and radical politics of cornelius cardew'

this piece has fallen out of my researches into autonomy and work within the artist/ audience relationship as cardew had, let us say, much to say on the subject of the political in music.

the first two tracks refer to 'the great learning' while the final refers to cardew's famous polemic 'stockhausen serves imperialism.'

this was recorded using the program 'sonic pi' on an inverness to edinburgh train and recorded directly from the program without an external interface.

this album is not to be taken as an endorsement of cardew's views or Maoism.

'progressive spirits working in the avantgarde find their way out, take a stand on the side of the people and set about making a positive contribution to the revolutionary movement.'

Cornelius Cardew.

the cover is a still from Philippe Regniez film on Cardew
