wake me with tears in your eyes (for helen)

about

i was a little shocked today to realise that it has been 18 years since the death of princess diana.

now i was not overly effected by her death other than to feel sadness over her passing when she was still young and had a chance for happiness.

the thing that has shocked me is that eighteen years have passed and it feels like yesterday.

i remember that i was visiting a friend's family home in the midlands and she woke me up in the morning to tell me that diana had died, she had tears in her eyes.

eighteen years.

i've long lost contact with that friend and the last time i spoke to them they had spent time in and out of hospital dealing with their bipolar disorder.
when they no longer responded to calls or texts i feared the worst. even that was nearly a decade ago.

as we grow older our lives become filled with regrets, memories and the dead
