about

this album was commissioned for the 'we need no swords' podcast.

it was written for a friend who is recovering from a serious illness and the first four tracks take extracts from sontag's writings on illness (which give my friend great solace) and set them for piano.

the fourth track is based on a photograph of the crowd at an early rolling stones gig that their mother attended; with the piece i try to imagine a photograph of their mother at the gig.

i have also included a sketch i made towards this final track (as well as the cover for the earlier release of this track) and my interview for this show which was cut to allow it to fit the show's format.

the podcast can be heard at: www.mixcloud.com/pmargree/we-need-no-swords-episode-27-elizabeth-veldon/

sontag's writings where on cancer and it is cancer from which my friend is recovering. i had intended to make this a physical release to raise money for cancer care but instead have allowed it to be downloaded for free and ask you, as a listener, to contribute (if you can) to any charity you feel needs the money most
