about

the bbc doomsday project was a computerised survey of the nation undertaken to celebrate the 900th anniversary of the doomsday book

it was published on two laser disks with a graphical interface designed specificity for the project which has been replicated across multiple modern it packages.

sadly it now faces digital obsolescence as it only ran on one acorn computer and those are now rare. in addition copyright law has made the duplication of much of the content impossible as the project opened up content production to individuals rather than experts (another aspect of this project which has become the norm since) and the resultant need to get copyright clearance has rendered this vital and important historical document unacceptable to most people.

the first track's title comes from an entry for the area i live in now and the second one is based upon several entries for the area i grew up in.

the cover comes from a still image taken from the second 'community' disc.
